Download the product: http://www.vmware.com/download/server/
This requeres that you register on vmware, it free and no adware/spam.
Then you register, you also get a serial number, that you need during installaton.
Preparing your box:
you need to install the following:
apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) gcc-3.4 xinetd
Download the folloding files from vmware:
Download VMware Server for Linux.
The core application needed to run VMware Server and interact with it on the local machine. TAR Binary.
Download Management Interface.
The VMware Server Web-based management interface. Install on your VMware Server system to enable control from a Web browser. Includes downloadable VMware Server Console installation files.
Download VMware Server Linux client package. A zip package containing installer files for these VMware Server Linux Client components:
- Linux VMware Server Console (.tar and .rpm)
- Perl scripting API for Linux (.tar)
- Server C API (.tar)
When done, unzip all the files, in to seperate folders.
Start installing vmware-server, then management interface and last client.
enter the place there youhave inpacked the file, and then run ./install.pl
Anwser the questions.
When done, remember to check /etc/xinet.d/ if there is a vmware-authd file, if not, make a file, containing this:
# default: on
# description: The VMware remote access authentification daemon
disable = no
port = 902
socket_type = stream
protocol = tcp
wait = no
user = root
server = /usr/sbin/vmware-authd
when done, restart xinetd "/etc/init.d/xinetd restart", then telnet localhost 902
it it says something with vmwarethen the auth deamon is running ok!
